Glaciodyn (Canada) IPY Project: Belcher Glacier seabed mapping data
The Belcher Glacier seabed mapping program was carried out over a 12-hour period in September 2006 and consisted of: 1) imaging of deeper parts of the inlet using the EM300 30 kHz multibeam sonar on the CCGS Amundsen icebreaker; and 2) detailed mapping adjacent to the tidewater front using the 300 kHz multibeam launch CSL Heron.
Data files from this mapping project are archived in ASCII, ESRI, and GTIF formats."

- Purpose
-
The Belcher Glacier is a marine terminating glacier with a tidewater margin nearly 7 km wide. In the lower 11 km of this 50 km long glacier, the glacier bed lies below sea level in an over-deepened fjord channel. Since the goal of the Canadian Glaciodyn project is to develop and validate a high-resolution model of this glacial system, seabed mapping off the terminus of the Belcher Glacier is an important part of constraining both the model geometry and the ice marginal advance history.
